REAL Recipes

I think we all are good at posting/using yummy recipes that are fun and different. For a twist, I'd like to add some practicality to this custom. Let's share some of our true family favorite recipes. I'm not talking about the fancy stuff (but maybe some will be). I'm talking about the meals you cook almost weekly because they are: 1) easy 2) you know your family will love them 3) cost effective 4) healthy? 5) you probably have the recipe memorized you cook it so often (or at least some combination of that list).

So please, leave a comment with your favorite recipe(s) too. I think this could be so handy to have these on hand. Blogstalkers, we want to hear from you too-we all have to eat! Let's share what we really like.

To start us off, I'll begin with a few family favorites from my home (I plan to add more):

Spaghetti:
-In a saucepan brown 1 pound of ground turkey (or beef)
-add 1 pkg onion soup mix
-add 1 can of spaghetti sauce
-serve over spaghetti noodles (we prefer wheat noodles)

Meatloaf:
In a bowl mix the following ingredients:

-1 lb ground turkey (or beef)
-2 egg whites
-1 tsp garlic
-1 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
-1 cup oatmeal
-1 tsp hot sauce (or tobacco sauce)
-1/4 cup chopped or dried onions
-Sprinkle in some seasoning salt

Mix ingredients well and place in greased bread pan. Cook at 350 for 50 minutes.

  3. Chicken Salad

-cooked chicken shredded in a food processor
-enough mayo to make the chicken moist
-a tablespoon or two of sugar to taste
    -salt and pepper to taste
-a few stalks of diced celery
    -a few diced green onions
-some craisins or grapes cut in half

I usually don't really measure when I make this and I just keep adding the extras until it tastes good and looks good to me. Shredding the chicken in the food processor really makes the texture great.

    Crockpot Italian Chicken

Throw 1-2 lbs chicken breasts in the crock pot with half a stick of butter and a good seasons Italian dressing packet. Let it cook on high for 2-3 hours, 4-6 on low or until chicken is done. Shred chicken with knife and fork, add 1/2 block of cream cheese and a can of cream of mushroom soup. Whisk, cook for 1/2 hour more until everything is warm. Serve over mashed potatoes or rice.

  5. Beef Taco Skillet
    1 pound ground beef

1 can (10 3/4 ounces) Campbell's® Condensed Tomato Soup (Regular or Healthy Request®)

    1/2 cup salsa

    1/2 cup water

6 flour tortillas (6-inch), cut into 1-inch pieces

    1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

    * Cook the beef in a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat until well browned, stirring often to separate meat. Pour off any fat.
    * Stir the soup, salsa, water and tortillas in the skillet and heat to a boil. Reduce the heat to low. Cook for 5 minutes. Stir the beef mixture. Top with the cheese.
    * Creamy Mexican Fiesta: Stir in 1/2 cup sour cream with the soup.
    * Ranchero Style: Use corn tortillas instead of flour tortillas and shredded Mexican cheese blend instead of Cheddar.

  6. Chicken Taco Salad

    In crock pot place:

    -4-6 chicken breasts
    -add taco seasoning
    -add 1/4 cup water

Cook on low for about 4-6 hours. Meat will naturally be shredded after cooking.

Serve over tortilla chips with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, salsa, cheese, etc for taco salad.

*We also use the meat for chicken tacos. You can do the same process with hamburger/ground turkey meat.
